No detailed notes. A symphony of Syrah and slate, flowers and spice, black pepper and oak, smoked bacon and ripe fruit. Wonderful elegance and balance, amazing quality in the context of the vintage (and otherwise too). Power without weight, toute en finesse. Delicious, time in hand.
Needed about an hour in my glass... then unfolding to a very nice northern Rhone syrah with deliciously, elegantly, cured meat aromas and dark dark blue fruits. I think some (well attended) pro reviews have underestimated this wine.
Lots of Syrahs - Nate M visits Cleveland (A Restaurant Downtown): I seemed to like this more than the group. Sure, there was a lot of oak still there, but most of it had softened a bit, was not harsh and worked with the fruit. The nose has black raspberries, black olives, vanilla, and slight floral notes. Full bodied. slick texture. The palate has black raspberry fruit, with some charred oak and slight earthiness. Not sure this ever gets better, but perhaps the oak continues to integrate.
There is so much going on with this wine. Smoke, leather, slightly sour red cherries, cassis, blackberries, sweet Oak, cedar, graphite. The acidity it a tad too high for me, but the greatness of the wine is there. The finish is about 30 seconds. 30 minutes decant is sufficient.
