  • Nose exhibited sous bois, decay, damp earth, tea, forest, and soy sauce. It had reached the tertiary stage with little fruit left.

  • Atlanta Musigny & Chevy Dinner: PnP. Lighter bodied, fruit had faded a bit and lots of tertiary notes. A cerebral experience, but enjoyable.

  • {Tasted at dinner arranged by FE, purchased by AJ in 1979 at the domaine. Decanted before dinner by AJ with reportedly dense sediment}

    Lovely, very complete, could smell this wine all night and be happy. Spherical, nothing protruding or out of place, magic in a glass. Not plush but still velvety, with sound acid to keep it lively and just delicious fruit. A wow wine.

    No sign of being over the hill or at all in decline. If I had to state a negative, it would be that the length for this bottle was a little clipped, like many '76s, but that would be mean-spirited. This bottle had at least another decade ahead of it with sound sailing.

  • medium red, orange rim - beautiful effusive nose of mature complex Burgundy aromas, some VA, but mostly bright fruit - lean but silky smooth mouth of sour cherry fruit and medium spice, tannins fully resolved - 15-20 second finish - this is a beautiful mature Burgundy from not so great a vintage - certainly not the best de Vogue, but clearly high quality after 4+ decades

  • This bottle had great fill and good color and turned out to be in perfect shape. Gorgeous nose of sous bois, red berries, and a hint of old leather. Tons of acidity on the palate with integrated tannins, more old leather, underwood, and tart berries. Long finish. Couldn't hope for a better 44 year old wine with excellent balance between tertiary flavors and fruit.
