Gorgeous wine hitting on all cylinders. Darkly browned but still opaque color. Some fruit is still there but this wine is dominated by leather, milk chocolate, and an amazing aromatic array of licorice, eucalyptus, menthol, and floral notes. Palate has powerful licorice notes with an earthy, dark, almost burnt caramel. Gorgeous. Highlight wine experience.

Initial nose and palate of mild dark fruit, leather, and dried herbs, but the fruit faded over 30 minutes and an earthiness took over along with the leather and herbs, but all declining over time. Tannins were barely present and the finish medium.

Opened 2 bottles w/ consistent notes. Strong and lovely nose, but watery on the front end with little fruit and a zip of heat on the finish. This wine was all nose and no palate. Very odd.

(PICO Madama) Pico Dear Friends, The state of the wine business has never been stranger with wines selling in the US for half of what they sell for abroad and vice versa. There is no semblance to the system right now and you have to really pick and choose your spots to stay afloat. I remember 5-6 years ago when all of my friends used to buy their wine directly from retailers in Europe, Australia and elsewhere to save a fortune (due to the strong dollar - the prices were cheaper than wholesale in the US). With the weak dollar, that market has all but dried up and it remains to be seen where the tug of war will find itself in a few years time. If you like deals and you like wine that will appeal to a wide audience with its juicy fruit, depth and exotic spice tone (not to mention it’s from a great vintage), here you go. It is also priced on the low-end for this level of ambition. Is this the most traditional wine? No, but who cares (well, I usually care but this is so seductive for its style that I’m willing to go for the “oh just yum” just this once)... 2004 Pico “Madama” (Jumilla/Spain) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Spain9090
(PICO MADAMA PETIT VERDOT/ MONASTRELL) Cooked Bottle; COLOR-dark; NOSE-very awkward; don't like this at all; TASTE-something's off w/ this wine, perhaps heat damage (cooked); JM-93; GV-N/A

Not much fruit on nose or palate. Seemed out of balance and likely past.

Strong nose of cherry with some mild spice. Palate similar with some plum and soft tannins. Medium finish.
