Blinded Alex on this, he had no clue, don’t think I would have gone Aussie at all. 13.0%, sweet black cherry fruit with a hint of vanilla, a little smoke and meat, ripe but not at all overbearing. Not especially complex, but tasty. B

Found this bottle stashed away in the cellar and thought it might be too old. Not so! Just beautiful. Nice balance. Fruit still fresh and enjoyable. Lots of sediment needed decanting away. Went well with wild venison loin.

This one showed a bit long in the tooth. The aromatics went back and forth between enjoyable/intriguing and annoying. With the mineral, animal and ripe fruit elements I found enjoyment but it was blanketed with the VA. On the palate was very big and tart. The wine came off as a bit odd on the finish. What I perceived as VA. Outside of the distractions we did enjoy the wine but I think its best days were probably 5+ years ago. With the price, I probably just grabbed this because of its 94 WA score. I think I drank some bottle on release but I kept no notes.

Really lovely still with 30 mins of air. A testament to the longevity and improvement of old aussies if they aren't goo bombs at the outset.
