Easter dinner. Austere nose when first opened with little midpalate. Opened over the course of an hour and held well. Good ripeness and richness. Fully integrated oak and mature but no oxidation. Clearly grand cru quality with long finish. Last glass was the best and was markedly better near room temp.

From a nice looking bottle with a slightly pushed cork, this wine had a light gold center and clear rims. The nose on the wine was very funky for several hours. It didn't taste like much either and I was worried that I would need to dump it. But slowly it got better after hour 3 and by hour 4 it had a medium+ intensity nose of lemons, custard, nutmeg, vanilla, toasty oak, and some white stone.
This wine was refined, and as noted, rather watery at first. It slowly built up power and richness but was always on the more refined side. It had very good balance and a great finish. The acidity was diffused around the mouth rather than showing crispness right down the middle of your tongue like younger wines exhibit.
Overall, this was an good showing for a fully mature wine. My guess is that it may have been a touch better a few years ago because just a bit of excess wood was showing. Thus, drink up!

Ripe and tropical with some acidity left. Over the peak but still enjoyable. Not really up to its Monty pedigree.
