Drank the 99 and 00 side by side. The 99 was a beauty, that combined Leroy typicity with 99 gravitas. A very very good wine. The 00 was a more typical Leroy spice monster, and showed like many 00's do. Both were extremely enjoyable, but the 99 was a step function above.
Great wine on a great night of wine drinking. Medium plus body with bright red fruit, concentration, a strong mid-body and a long finish. Showed Leroy grace and concentration but without showing off. If they can make this good a wine in an off-year like 2000, there's no stopping them in a better year. When I (on rare occasions) buy Leroy, I feel stupid for spending so much compared to other houses. When I drink them much later, I feel very smart.
