Decanted for ~4 hours, then backing into the bottle for ~4 hours ahead of service. Gorgeous aromas of black cherry, florals, anise and leather. Still very fresh and chewy with loads of nuance. Right in the middle of its peak window.

More Wine, Less Delta (Osteria Langhe): Decanted for ~7 hours then back into the bottle and consumed a few hours later. I think the aromatics might have been most intense at hour 4-5 in the decanter, so may cut the decanting time a smidge. On the palate, however, this was rocking with so much power, concentration and complexity. A fantastic mature Barolo with plenty of years left to go.

Dinner at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): This spent about 7 hours in a decanter before dinner. While most at the table preferred the Burlotto for its beautiful perfume and lightness, I preferred the Conterno more for its weight and raw power. This is a hefty wine still showing ample concentration and lots of sweet fruit, though admittedly the fruit is starting to show some brown on the edges.

Ripe Italian Wines (@Private location): Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah Popped and poured, not decanted. Excellent fill level and cork. Clear, light garnet color, with fine-grained sediments. Fully developed nose. Not really what I hoped from a great Barolo (Underwood etc.) but not totally unpleasant. Fungal notes and very fine oak. Dry, very high, but well integrated acidity. All components of the wine still united and not felt apart. I liked it to drink but it was obviously not a stunner (anymore). It is past its peak and will not get any better.

Bottle, fill and cork all excellent. Huge wine with excellent typicity. After hours in the decanter, it was excellent with barolo risotto. Decades (centuries?) of life ahead. Improves steadily with air.
