It’s definitely losing steam and should be consumed soon, but still very good. Tannins and acid have softened to very little, but everything is still very much in balance, just muted.

Nose is jammy, with some tobacco, smoke, and sage. Palate is also jammy, with blackberry, rose, white pepper, and woody tones. The finish is fairly long, altho with some heat that takes a little while to dissipate. I used to like this style of wine, but it just seems a bit overblown. I saved a few bottles of the Dave Phinney era wines to see how they would develop, but IMHO it hasn’t really changed that much from the first time I tasted it 10+ years ago. The 15.2% ABV leads me to believe it will last a while longer, but I don’t think it will improve.
