Tasted a bottle from a different source than my last one and this was good. Nose was of dark cherries, blackberry, red currant, cedar, macchiato, baking spices, sweat, and leather. Blind I would have guessed this was within 10 years of vintage. Palate is still youthfully structured with moderate dusty tannins and lots of sour cherry acid on the finish. Palate really feels like biting into a ripe dark cherry.
Dark dull black purple, reticent clean aromas of dark chocolate and blackberry; firmly tannic and a small dose of sangiovese's tartness clip the finish a little short. Prior bottles have been 90+ with forward rich black cherry core taking center stage on the impressive scaffolding. Bottle/cork looked good and all have been cool cellared; guess this one just dropped its extroverted black cherry personality more rapidly than other bottles.
Never had il carbonaione before but was really not a fan of this bottle, though I fear I might have inadvertently heat damaged it. Full of raisins, prunes and dates, seemingly overripe. It was purchased from hart davis hart and bottle and cork looked perfect. Over time the fruit became subdued and some spice notes emerged. Listed as flawed as I did need to transport the bottle briefly through a warm climate. If I were to rate this showing it would be 87 points.
