Very deep colour. Rich, raisiny nose. Lovely richness on the palate, which shows complex raisiny caramelly flavours with good acidity and a spicy finish. Good length. Very good+

This had a more reticent noise with the sweetness being the dominant characteristic. A hit of orange peel and spice. This is one of the sweeter malvazias that I've had, though this has plenty of heft. An almost maple syrup sweetness, with the spice characters far less dominant on the palate. Quite good.

Raisiny nose (from a very small glass as offered for tasting at producer's). Good intensity on the palate, starting with refreshing spice-acidity atack, a touch of citrus and apricots. Good aftertaste, quite sweet, but not cloying.

(NV H.M. Borges Madeira 15 Year) This small, independent shipper, established in 1877, epitomizes the artisan producers of the island, yet is not well known in the United States. Maple-syrup color with a light amber rim. Elaborate, swirling aromas of mahogany, tangerine, sea salt, and crème anglais, enhanced by a vivacious volatile acidity that adds rather than distracts. Lots of textural pleasure here, with a cool, velvety entry. The palate is stuffed with exotic espresso, hazelnut, and apricot-marmalade flavors, plus plenty of edgy acidity to pull it all together in a medium bodied package. A memorable Malmsey, with a profound finish and multifaceted aftertaste that provides something new with each swallow. Fit to Be Fortified

Lacking a bit in complexity compared to equally aged colheitas.
