  • Miscellaneous Wines from Beaune and Chablis; 11/6/2022-11/10/2022: Purchased at Place des Grands Crus in Beaune (a shop that is definitely worth visiting for interesting back vintage wines). Bottle in superb shape with no ullage. Light ruby to garnet. Ripe red fruit aromas with a faint bit of funk in the background. Medium weight, some sap, simpler red fruit that has retained nice sweetness, sound acidity, light soil, and little remaining tannin. A minor dirty off note slightly mars the finish. It was interesting to me that this wine had no trace of oak at a time that Bouchard was said to use a lot of wood. Not a great wine but wholly enjoyable. Of course I thought of the young Morot Marconnets we tasted earlier today, and this bore some resemblance to its embryonic compatriot.

The next evening more VA popped out, but I still enjoyed its older savory Burgundy flavors. A real bargain for the pleasure it provided.

  • Purchased in Beaune, popped and poured. Requires 30 min in the glass. This has come a long way since my last bottle in Oct 2017. Very elegant and well balanced. Should be enjoyed on its own before dinner. Certainly in its prime but will drink well for 10 plus years. Surprisingly good!

  • Excellent. Very well balanced. Decanted for 30 minutes. Tasty fruit, level tannins. Could lay for a few more years.

  • This needs a 90 min decant. This is probably in its prime but still has 10 years on it easy. I purchased this at the winery in Beaune. Good balance and finish. Great value given vintage and 1er Cru.

  • Light bodied, perfumed, and drinking well. It requires about 30-40 minutes of aeration to open up. Nice wine, with chocolate and cherries as the main aromatics, and notes of spices, earth, and a touch of smoke. A touch of green, though. Drink now.

(Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Marconnets) Assembled through successive purchases, BP&F now hold over 2.5 hectares of this vineyard which is almost on the border with Savingy. Medium colour. The nose is restrained, but shows 'sugary' red fruits. I find the fruit more intense on the palate than the previous 1er Cru blend, but also the tannins are significantly more prominent. Apparently year in - year out, Marconnets always provides a more tannic wine. A wine to wait for, it's going to be a good one.
