On the nose: heavenly. Red fruit, earth, barnyard. On the palate: just not a lot of there there. Grenache sweetness (too much), some dark chocolate, red/black fruit. I think the dissipating palate is a sign that this is moving past its prime. On the other hand, I'm not sure I would have loved the highly concentrated grenache style that much earlier on. This was still enjoyable, especially for $30. Would have been less excited if I had paid more.

Carmine red brown color. In the bouquet a lot of mocha and chocolate. On the palate quite special with a lot of dark chocolate and bitterness, but also a firm amount of sweetness. A little garrigue. Reminds me of the Wolf Blass Black Label 1999 Shiraz/CS blend, but a little more mature. Really nice wine, but I think the bottle we had was a little past its prime. I nevertheless score it 91.

red to dark red in color. still youthful with fruit but starting to develop secondary notes. Solid concentration and finish. Drank well all evening. Overall much better than I had hoped for from this vintage.

The nose of 1996 acid, the taste of 1996 acid. Maybe it needs another 2-3 years to be more complex. Anyway, the aftertaste is powerful and long finished. I have some left in the bottle. Let's see what it gonna be, then.

Nice wine, tart cranberry with a big peppery finish. Good for a '96 CdP, but it didn't really blow my skirt up.
