big fat flush nose of green chili and chocolate. something salty and tomato, but not ketsup. Ben calls out vinegar and that the wine is falling apart. comparisions to over salted food. I don't quite know what to make of this wine and where it's at.

vertical tasting with the 2005 Etranger. very impressive - both years. Initially, the 2004 was tight and close compared to the 2005 which was much brighter with heapings of fresh fruit. The tannins in the 2004 were very fine but substantially more than was present in the 05. Both wines were full bodied, well balanced and had a med-long finish. The 2004 had dark fruit nose, almost blueberry pie and more spice & cassis than the 05. The 05 conversely had bright berry nose and flavours of strawberry and rhubarb.

Lively nose, flavors & finish. After a 30 minute decant, it developed a silky mouthfeel & a nice balance. Easily drinkable right now and for the next few years, but I don't see this improving much, otherwise I would've scored it highter.

Chunky chocolate thing on the nose. Slightly refermenting? Collapsing on the palate? Going down?

loads black fruit but nice persistent finish without tannins. Enjoyed it.
