Given how fruit forward this wine is upon release, I was very surprised at how well this bottle has held up. Drinking very beautifully with a nice backbone of fruit but the oak has softened a little at this point. Not at all over the hill as other posts suggest- and the difference is not decanting the wine. Anyone who decants a wine like this for hours shouldn't be surprised when it falls apart in the glass. Still had a nice colour to it, with just a hint of brick on the rim. A testament to this great vintage in California.
Thought this might have been too old at first. Decanted and aerated then poured. Dark garnet color with a touch of bricking. Opened a bit harsh and astringent. Over the next hour, opened and softened a bit to reveal some additional fruit...plum, cassis, blueberry and some additional complexity. Clearly improved with air but still was not as good as expected.
