Read a nice WS review of the 2004 Ch. St. Jean Chardonnay Robert Young Vineyard. So, I was wandering around a wine shop and saw the 2003. Could not remember which vintage I was looking for so I picked up 3 bottles. Wish I had hewed to my standard rule which is to shop with a list.
Way too much oak. Not very much fruit. Indistinct flavors. Slight oxidation and not in a positive way. Thank goodness the lasagna covered up the taste of the wine.

I don't know if the problem is with Robert Young Vineyard or with Chateau St. Jean, but this combination is not worth the $23.00 I spent on this wine. A while back I looked for Robert Young wines, I also looked for Chateau St. Jean. Separately they have each made some premium wine, together they do not. The last few years of this combination have been disappointing.

Nice, balanced chard, which really grows on you over time in the glass. Will improve further with age?

Really tasty and enjoyable. Good concentration and complexity. Had that lemon curd note that seems typical of CSJ chards.
