From a good looking bottle with a firm cork, this wine had a light gold color. Its high- (medium+ at first) intensity nose was blasting sweet vanilla, marzipan, lemons, white stone, and some grilled pineapple.
Not surprisingly, it tasted a bit light and overly acidic at first. This was a good sign. After a few hours of air the wine filled out To show great richness, crisp acidity, and awesome length.
The fruit tasted like picked late at first because it was very ripe. As the wine aired, the slightly over-ripe quality subsided. I find this characteristic of Le Montrachet. It was amazing how much acidity there was to support the complex fruit. My nit pick was that the balance tilted just a touch too much toward the vanilla (wood) flavors. However, I am very sensitive to that.
This was certainly outstanding and will not be getting any better. Enjoy!

Honeysuckle, cake, caramel and dried tropical extract. Youth with bright acidity but the fruit was chunky. Perfect provenance bottle. I wonder if it just suffered from travel shock.

Simply gorgeous nose of buttered popcorn and brown spices. Great condition and drinking young, it's more straight-forward and down the middle than the Ramonet with classic flavors of white peach and hazelnuts and good acids. Finishes with fabulous complexity with notes of brown spices and minerals. A great Laguiche! At Latour, Crystal Springs 2/1/17

Alvin Blind. Advanced bottle with bruised apple notes. Certainly grand cru depth beneath it all.

Montrachet Dinner: 10 Vintages of Ramonet and Marquis de Laguiche, 1983-2002 (Oceana - New York NY): Honeycomb and baked apple with good density, concentration and surprising balance and freshness for the vintage. Maturing gracefully, but still time to enjoy this now.
