This had a bit of an odd nose- celery seed and maybe a little reductive note, better on palate, cherry and red plum with some herbs. Still pretty tannic. B

Backup, popped and poured. I had it in a bag, but said ‘99 NSG, Jay’s guesses were Chevillon (yes), Cailles (no), Roncieres (yes)- 20 seconds to ID. Red and black cherry, truffle, citrus zest. Very elegant for NSG. B+/A-

Tremendous bottle. I think this was better than the previous one I opened maybe 2-3 years ago. I agree with others that this wine is at a lovely peak, but I do think it could age further.
It opened very reserved, really offering only good fruit flavor and assurance that it was not over the hill. However, it had shortness that was a little disappointing. With time, the flavors lengthened and lengthened. About 2.5 hours in, it had really opened into kind of a beast. The reticence was gone. It then started to settle down into something really superb in terms of balance and sheer deliciousness. Really a great Burgundy.

(Chevillon Robert Nuits St.Georges Les Roncières) Medium colour that fades to a salmon-pink rim. The nose is a mix of sweet, candied fruits and leaves, and slowly takes on a red-fruit dimension. Slowly widens in the mouth, aided by lovely acidity. Still some tannin and slowly lingering flavours. Lovely.

David’s 1999 Cote de Nuits (Lorne, London): Dense mid ruby. A little on the warm side. Nicely rich and rounded. Attractive with good length. ****

David's 1999 Côtes de Nuits 1er Cru, Village by Village Horizontal (Lorne Restaurant, London): Nose has sous bois, red currants and a clove / candied orange zest that reminds me of a hot cross bun. Once again takes time to show much on the palate but some spicy interest in time, tannins fine and correct.
