  • If there is a contest for the biggest dud of this great vintage, I nominate this. Wood chips, modest fruit, short finish. Cooking wine at best.

  • Wow. I bought a case at auction because it was being dumped for $110 a case. This wine is stupid good. More modern style of Bordeaux fruit forward with plums and coffee laced bramble. Just a gorgeous effort that has plenty of acid to carry this at least ten more years. Very fine effort indeed.

  • Cork broke halfway; luckily, I had my trusty Durand. Slow O' for three hours. I anticipated Haut-Medoc sternness, and found it, together with noticeable oak; tannins are as expected. Medium to full body. Not compelling, but there is potential. Day two, the fruit has come forward with a nice, perhaps optimum, balance struck. Day three—I absently left the bottle uncorked overnight—tired but more than serviceable. In short, a wine with legs and promise, and, as it seems with many if not all of the 2005s, is some years away from falling off any cliff. I believe this could benefit from a few more years, but it is currently too woody for my taste, and that may not change much. One of two bottles remaining.

  • Highly regarded Michel Rolland should reconsider putting his name at the forefront of an average bottle of wine. Drinking the last of 6 bottles held temperature controlled and consumed at intervals over the years. While the first few were disappointing, at least the last two were average.

  • Continues to disappoint me. Flavors just never seem that pleasurable. Nothing wrong or flawed, just doesn’t taste good. Tannins finally somewhat manageable, but too little to late.

(Michel Rolland Episode One) COLOR-dark; NOSE-very luscious; rhubarb jam reduction; dark cassis; hints of Maple; little brick action; explosive, but not Fake; a Home Run; TASTE-big tannic BOMB; very tight; too young & tight to score; this wine need to go through puberty; RP-92/94; GV-"too young to score"
