We were not expecting much of a wine we expected to be long gone. Much to our surprise it delivered true drinking pleasure, in particular because of its genuinely "old school" style, avoiding overconcentration and a moderate alcohol level (incidentally not reported on the wine tag!). Much finesse, with lovely matured fruit, noble club seat leather, tobacco, chocolate. A welcome reminder of old time Bordeaux, before the arrival of high-tech and parkerization.

Sjaak's 40th birthday dinner (Groot-Ammers, Netherlands): Light and gentle, gravelly, surprisingly lively and fresh, still with crushed red fruit, hint of undergrowth, vestiges of tannic grip, decent finish. Holding up surprisingly well.

Probably the best btl I've had out of 4 or 5 from the same case, possibly because it had a good fill lvl. This was clean and fruit forward, with notes of dark cherry, plum, hawthorne and some iron filings and a touch of earth, bell pepper and cedar. Still juicy and very much alive, gaining weight and fruit with abt an hour of air. Last glass had juicy blackcurrant shining through

Earthy, herby, cassis and slightly musky bouquet. Tasted red fruits, white peppers, graphite. Long bitter and warm finish. This has a mature entry but with spikes of energy through sours and tannins. Rather confusing for me. I would say this is past it’s prime.

Cork drenched and in crumbles. As a result, the wine was tired and thin. A pity, after the last bottle, which was quite remarkable.
