Huge nose, rich red/black fruit, fresh asphalt, ash, tobacco. Smells like a huge wine. Tastes like a huge wine as well, long, intense palate of black fruit, tobacco and structure. The alcohol is up there as it somehow overwhelms the intense flavors in the mid-palate and finish, muddling up the experience a bit. Overall this was quite a bruiser, it paired well with the steak but was sort of lost during the rest of the meal. I feel like this is a wine done in a particular style, if you like these huge Washington reds you will likely enjoy this. If you don't, well, you won't. I'm middle of the road on it.
Slow O'ed for a couple hours...red and blue fruits, but the most enjoyable dynamic was the silky smooth tannins followed by a nice finish with no heat whatsoever...these CVR's are drinking great with some age.
