A beautiful and exceptional burgundy. Didn’t decant and watched for the sediment with the last glass. This is what I like pinot noir to taste like. Brick red with a bit of orange in the glass. Fruit and leather on the nose. Palate began with sherry and port, then bright red cherries, spice, leather, and a hint of oak. Nice long finish.

Tasted blind at the domaine. Came across as much older than 2001, but clearly from a leaner vintage. As much earth and forest floor as fruit, very modest spice, with firm structure that was slightly too dominant. I would give this another decade or two to see if it transforms into a more pleasurable tertiary wine.

Dinner Ash, Richard Sandy et al – thanks to robeo for opening -- Wow, ’01 Burgs continue to overachieve! Soaring aromatics loaded with clove-infused chocolate , smoked exotic hams, bing cherry, pine and rotisserie chicken (!) Wonderful on the palate, expressive, bright, and refreshing. Lovely ’01 Burg.

This has improved, now revealing some secondary aromas of leather and spices.
