I've drank more pinot noirs in my lifetime than any other varietal, and I have to say that the '05 W H Smith Sonoma Coast is by far the most overachieving pinot I've ever tasted. The first time I tasted this on release, my wife said, "Why the f*** do you f***ing spend $$$$ on your Marcassins and Kistlers and Auberts, when this is delicous for a fraction of the price?" I concurred, and a bought a case of this pinot and enjoyed every single bottle. Tonight was my last bottle. There is definitely a Burgundian elegance to this wine. This, to me, is is a dead-ringer for a $50 Bourgogne from Leroy, rather than a $50 Premier Cru from a lesser producer. There is a more simplistic beauty than esoteric intellectualism in this wine. I have loved how this wine has evolved from a precocious teenager, to a talented Natalie Portman, and it's currently entering its Diane Lane stage. It has always been beautiful at every bottle, but I think it should be consumed now.

Thanksgiving Wines (Farpointe Cellar): A wonderful nose of smoke, pomegranate, and cherry cola. The palate was soft, with cherry, spice, and a little cinnamon. The finish was great.
