  • Medium dark red. Intense nose of dark fruit, meat, black pepper and cast iron. Delicious red fruit flavours. Tons of acid to go with some large tannins. Should continue to improve.

I thought this was very European, while the 97 Pavilion would appeal more to a new world drinker while still being strongly French.

  • poured as a foil to the 97 Chave. Opened in the AM and seemed much more tightly coiled than the Chave, so then decanted for several hours. Drunk over around 3 hours.

this quite a bit darker and more brooding with roasted meat, darker fruits, black olives, and overall a less subtle feel to it. Fuller, denser, and coarser on the palate with a more of a direct feel to it. Rich, but not overripe, brooding, younger and less coherent than the Chave. It suffered in its company, but overall was still very enjoyable and if I had any more bottles, I would like to have tried another one in 5+ years. 91 pts

  • Easter Day dinner with all the family. 4 hour decant of my remaining three bottles.
Power in a velvet glove much as my original 2012 note but with more elegance - whether from 2+ years or extra decanting time I'm not sure.
Drink over he next five years for best enjoyment.

  • 2 hour decant.
After a relatively poor bottle last time out, back at the full blast of my 2012 note which is still very much valid.
Excellent with still 3 or so years to go on this high plateau.

  • Decanted for 2 hours.
I suspect it was bottle variance, but while following the basic character of my original note, the concentration was missing leaving a (still nice enough) rather one dimensional flat impression.
Hopefully this was a one-off. Will report back. Normally 92-93pts.
