Warm and spicy but ultimately the spirit dominates and fruit has faded. Nice suprise that this was still drinking so well but would have been interesting to have been able to sample it 15 or 20 years ago, when I suspect it would have been closer to its peak.

Fair amount of heat immediately after opening, but with a fine cherry taste. By the next day most of the heat had faded. Smooth, lovely, pale pink/hint of tan. Was worried it had past its prime but it was really wonderful.

Dramatically better than the last bottle of this port that I tried. This bottle is a remarkably youthful deep ruby with a slightly tawny rim. Nose is still dominated by sweet, ripe cherries but in this bottle, the impression is fresh and lively, like cherries in a bowl in the sun. Has a lot of material in it -- nearly chewy, sweet on the palate, with a very long finish.

On opening, a ringer for cough syrup, but happily this impression faded quickly. With adequate air: very deep purple, nose is intense and sweet, dominated by black cherries; rich but aggressively flavored, dominated by very sweet fruit. A good but not sensational port, basically a bit too much -- hard to imagine what this must have been like at age 10 or 20, given that at age 50 it's still going strong!

Chicago Wine Flock..."Wines that Ken Loves" (Abigail's American Bistro - Highland Park IL): What a pleasant surprise. Bright and sweet red and black cherry, hints of kirsch, amazingly fresh for its age. Thank you, and happy birthday, Ken!
