Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 93.5 points

  • Bottled by Vinmonopolet (Norwegian Wine Monopoly). Loads of sediments. Lovely feminin aromas of ripe strawberries, prunes, raspberries and some leather. Light and delicate in the mouth, and as such very Saint-Julien in style. Still plenty of fruit, but little tannins. Also some developed Burgundy sensations. Difficult to score such a wine, but 93 p came to my mind.

  • The 1948 Léoville Barton is amazing right from the outset with an open, redcurrant and wild raspberry profile complemented by cracked black pepper, worn leather, and old cedar. It’s fun to see this wine still showing a healthy, lean vigor, its dynamic acid and meaty structure imbuing mature flavors with a freshness and drinkability sometimes missing from much younger wines. In an olfactory sense, this is actually quite similar to the 1947 but with more structure and a bit less lushness to the fruit.
