Clear dark purple in color. Clean nose of cassis, vanilla, and some floral. Dry, med acidity, med body, elegant tannins, black berry, dark chocolate, and licorice on palate. Beautiful wine. Lots going on but very approachable. I wish I had bought more.

On first night was very good, with a raspberry candy and tar. On second night, this was excellent, with forest floor, mushrooms, plum, a hint of berry.

At Afghan Kebab House Dinner after LGBT Post-Pride Mixer at Met Museum: This wine was most people's WOTN, as its very good fruit and secondary tastes of tar and chocolate were a good pairing with the various MEAT dishes at the restaurant. Unfortunately, I only brought one bottle to the dinner, thinking everyone would prefer the Sandra (wine and/or picture). This Casima wine was like drinking an Italian Super Tuscan; it was also much more open than the ("Naked) Sandra wine (also from Zanzibar) 2008, suggesting that wine needs more time. (The Sandra blend is 15% syrah while the Zanzibar is 15% sangiovese; otherwise they are cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc). Zanzibar is produced by Avalon wine. Delicious wine: drink now with food / meats.

From memory: We had this wine soon after its arrival. It was nice but didn't blow our socks off. Maybe bottle shock?
