Even with hours and hours of air, this wine is still fiercely tannic, not offering a heck of a lot of pleasure. Five years on from my initial bottle, this wine seems like it's in suspended animation. Bury this in the cellar for another 3-5 years and hope for the best. Not rated.
First one of these in just over three years. Beginning to take on a mature look. Now showing some definite bricking and lightening at the edge. Beautiful and complex on the nose. Powerful aromas of ripe cherries, spice, flowers and sous bois jump from the glass. Full-bodied, rich and initially very chewy and astringent. After about an hour the delicious black cherry and raspberry fruit began to fully emerge and this became noticeably softer. The mid-palate shows incredible depth and focus. The long, mouth-filling finish features beautiful notes of oak, spice and a hint of vanilla. Big and powerful, but very polished and not nearly as tannic as last time. This is developing into an absolutely superb Barbaresco. 94+ 50+5+13+18+8=94
