At the PEF dinner at our house. Decanted for about 2 hours, drank over 2. This was served with a tenderloin w/port sauce, Drank next to a PNV Napa Howell at the Moon - for contrast on two very different wines.
deep brick red color. Nose of dark fruits, burnt caramel and herbs... beautuful during the decant, really jumped out during the pour. Palate was a savory blend of blackberry, black cherry, kirsch, herbs de provence, spices, peppercorn, garrigue. Long and nuanced finish
CdP in 06 was generally considered an "off" vintage. This wine is certainly hitting stride, very impressive showing for a classic CdP. Great now, my guess is it will continue to improve. My WOTN
Really shows that good storage and time, can make amazing wines show well. This may be considered an off year, but I slow ox-ed the wine about 6 hours before dinner of Texas BBQ, that had everything from beef Brisket, Pork ribs to Goat and Chicken. This wine stood shoulders above others and had the smoky, funky blood like smells to go along with the kirsch liqueur, blackberry jam, some asian five spice, a touch of the herbs de provence and black peppercorn. Great intro, mid-palate and finish. Really showing that an off vintage is only off for producers that are as choosy in their berries and knowing what style of wine will be best. I was greatly impressed.
