At first, the '02 Syrah Family Reserve was intensely fruity, showing a mix of black and blueberries with sweet baking spices, yet after an hour in decant, things really started to get interesting. Here I found depths of dark black fruits, notes of sweet tobacco, lavender, smoked meats, hints of white pepper, and black tea. On the palate, velvety textures coated the senses, offset by tart black fruit, savory spice and vibrant acids, as liquid purple florals fleshed out toward the finale. There was a gorgeous tart twang of residual dark fruits, black tea and spice on the finish, which remained remarkably fresh and lively throughout. I can't help but feel that further decanting may bring out even more details.
OMG - outstanding. Expected this to be over the hill. Dark berry flavors, that kept changing as it rolled around in my mouth. Glad I kept it around this long.

If you love glycerin, this is your wine. Lush fruit, silky going down and just an awesome finish.

Big and lush, mouthcoating blackberry fruit, and a nice chocolate-mocha finish. Consistent with prior notes.
