I don't think I smelled more tobacco in any wine than this one. It is huge and easy to recognize ( very nice by the way), but it doesn't "cover" other flavors like red cherry, minerals, milk chocolate (!) and spices. Taste? So nice velvety texture. Flavors? All the same as in the smell, but red cherry and milk chocolate are the winners. What is more incredible is that all those flavors last from the beginning to the very long finish! Acidity is vivid and helping, tannins are soft, but visual. Balance and harmony are here. What else we need?

When I saw the cork almost soaked to the top I thought oh no, but what followed was a blackberry explosion, some earthiness and amazing finish, this was still rocking for a 35 yr old wine. Colour was spot on too.

Filling-level into the neck, cork intact. Medium to dark garnet colour. Red and dark fruit, black currant, cherry, plum, bell pepper, cedar, leather, tobacco, spices, cinnamon, light graphite, and light pebbly minerality, completed by a bitter chocolate aspect on the finish, with good acidity, mostly resolved tannin and very good length.
The wine started to open up after an hour or so in a small decanter, kept improving as time passed, and became quite enjoyable in the course of the evening. A solid, firm, mature Bordeaux with good complexity, but without fireworks. Drink now, and well-preserved bottles also over the next six to eight years.

Purchased on release, from good storage. Much like the previous note, fully mature and with fully resolved tannins. More difficult to track against the more expressive wines of the evening, this was nonetheless a nice quaff today. Drink up.
Fully mature and resolved tannins. Solid claret, touch of gravy and red fruits. Earthy red fruit flavour. Nothing special but opened up over a 3 hour decant. Certainly ok.
