  Medium garnet colour. Sweet-scented nose. Good fruit, cherry, mixed berries, blueberry, forest notes, mushroom, complex spice notes, hints of chocolate and coffee, and well-integrated oak are joined by mineral (iron-like) undertones, with fresh, medium-level acidity, round tannin, and superb length. Intriguing worn out leather aspect. Light mint-like freshness on the finish and aftertaste. High-class, lightly creamy and ultra-smooth texture. Some old-age sweetness. Broad shouldered, yet light on its feet. Very balanced and harmonious. Great persistence, too, just goes on and on…Pinot heaven! (95)

  Drank it blind
  Many people at the table loved this wine. It is very good German PN but for me lacking a bit of elegance. 93-94

  We had a half bottle of this at Fischer's Fritz in Berlin two weeks, and I will echo the sentiments of both of these reviewers. I think this is simply delicious and, as Gorm says, verges (almost) on being overly sweet, yet has just enough acidity, minerality (iron?) and tannin to keep it in check. A wonderful, albeit different expression of pinot. Perhaps not as complex or likely to be as long-lived as top Red Burgundy, but a great wine at this stage.

  pomegranade colour starting to fade on the rim, astonishingly broad glycerin windows. Wild strawberry nose, with a litte bit of white pepper and a hint of cinnamon. Changed into a more subdued cherry on day two. On the palate this wine was pure velvet not jammy, wild strawberry mixed with dark cherry and surprisingly also plum. Aging potential 15y plus

  Uncorked DK tasting: 2005 Burgundy (Karlebo Kro): A very very sweet nose of coconut, glue, wild strawberries and milky chocolate. This was so different that everybody instantly identified it as being a joker. In the mouth it is also very sweet and very fat. But these impressions are balanced by some herbal and iron notes which ultimately keeps the sweetness in check. This is very delicious! But not burgundian in style, or german, or anything else for that matter. A wine all its own. Seems almost like a hypothetical blend of 20% d'Yquem and 80% spätburgunder. Group average: 93.7.
