| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 8 notes) | | | Tasted by MiamiWineNovice on 10/26/2009 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured - paired with sesame crusted ahi and basmati rice. Showed a strong nose of strawberries and cream, fresh earth and some secondary baking spices. Palate showed both strawberry and raspberry along with a little brown sugar. Medium bodied, decent finish but a little hot. This was a solid wine but I wouldn't purchase again. (213 views) | | | Tasted by bingdoodle on 3/20/2009: Ok...nice cherry and a slight hint of spice...pretty balanced...will pass on seeking out more. (230 views) | | | Tasted by AllRed on 7/27/2008 & rated 88 points: The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Rich & Dana's): Faded garnet color. Aromas of cherry liqueur follow through on the palate, with a touch of baking spices. (118 views) | | | Tasted by phlin on 3/18/2008 & rated 90 points: Family Winemakers of California (Pasadena, CA): I loved the textural plushness of this wine. Hedonistic yet restrained, with notes of sweet cherries, black raspberries, cocoa powder, and citrus. 90-91 points. (535 views) | | | Tasted by jimmythedentist on 3/15/2008 & rated 93 points: another delcious example of garys' vinyards. Vision really does extract the best fruit flavors from this incredible vinyard. Fruit with 20-30 second lingering aftertaset, balanced and wonderful. still a little reserved, but quite young and excited to see if change (413 views) | | | Tasted by jasonh on 3/8/2008: Very candied. Okay and somewhat tasty for a few sips but as with most Garys Pinots, this was simple and I don't it will gain much complexity. (442 views) |

About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

California Wines (Wine Institute of California)
California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
