  • I am sure there are better bottles out there, but this one is gently in the decline. The wine initially came off as somewhat cooked and a touch volatile. With air, however, it took on weight and the palate really rounded out nicely, with a smokiness emerging to complement the muted red fruit.

  • Q4 2910 Wine Club - Aged Spaniards (The Apt): Wine #11: This just tasted incredibly young. It was double decanted and then rebottled and still my impression was this was a new release wine (which of course doesn't quite fit with the theme, but there it is). It's still all red fruits and oak and a bit more heat to it. The wine just needs a lot more time. But would love to try again in 20 years. Went back and revisited a few times during the evening and it never got to peak.

  • Magnum. : I should have opened it 4 years ago on its 20th. It has passed its peak and in my opinion on the way down. It lacks character/identity right now. Concentrated, with now soft tannis, but I felt the balance overall was lacking.. acidity was needed. Notes of chocolate, prunes, thyme and a touch of coffee. Nice finish. Tasty wine.. and nothing really wrong with it but just nothing to write home about and 100% not worth the super high tag this bottle comes with. These wines suffer from being pretty harsh at their youth, but other than a few, I don't really recall them ageing incredibly well past the 15 year mark. I'd stick with the 10 year point with these wines.

oh well.. I waited too long.

  • Pop and pour. Opaque, blackish color. Nose was tight initially but gave way to wet earth, dark cherries, and dried herbs. Palate was flavorful but still tannic. Very enjoyable but needs more time or a vigorous decant.
