  • Opened the evening before, then slow-ox'd in the cellar for ~24 hours. A first taste after opening was promising (after the corked one), but not particularly expressive. A second taste at noon showed signs of oxidation. Not excessive but present. No miracle happened and they were still there in the evening. We drank a few glasses over dinner anyway, but without too much pleasure. The palate was structurally quite nice: good body and acidity in a well balanced and lively package, but the oxidation was felt on the palate too and spoiled the experience. Too bad...

Well... one day later, the wine was still there, quite surprisingly the oxidative note had receded somewhat and the fullness and lively acidity on the palate made it to a very enjoyable drink. It improved significantly with respect to yesterday.

  • Cork crumbled and fell into the wine which was, well... corked

  • 1978 Piemonte Dinner Showcasing Produttori Crus (Flour + Water, San Francisco): Pale color. Fine aromas of faded strawberry and roses. Light weight, delicate weight, perfectly ripe, red fruit, elegant, long, and earthy. Yes, there was some VA, but just enough to add to the perfume rather than detract. After the Produttori wines, this was really the first bottle to show the ethereal side of fully mature Nebbiolo. It faded quickly, so not a wine to be held, but gorgeous initial showing.

  • The nose was dark and a hint vegetal with herbal tones, but with time in the glass, a gorgeous display of mature red fruits, minerals and dried flowers came forward. On the palate, I found a silky expression of dark red berry fruit, with rich, mouth-filling textures, giving way to minerals, spice and enlivening acidity. The finish was long with dark red berry tones, minerals, hints of cedar and undergrowth. The balance here was impeccable as this wine has aged wonderfully and is in no danger of declining.

  • not sure where I got this bottle, it wasn't in my cellar inventory for some reason... this bottle had lost its fruit, an interesting and pleasant drink, would have been more pleasant if with food, but not at all like the two prior bottles I had which were spectacular, hoping my last is more like the earlier bottles

(Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Barolo) Bricked medium dark red violet color; aromatic, deep, berry jam, anise, light lavender, pastille nose; delicious, poised, elegant, mature, dried mushroom, tart cherry, tart raspberry, pastille, anise, mineral palate; mature now and should be on a plateau for 10 years; long finish
