This has reached its glorious potential. Deep and complex bouquet of cherries, sous bois, tobacco, old saddle leather, and menthol. It's so shapely and balanced, with power and freshness that added depth and complexity to sweet fruit flavors and savory overtones, all of which gain and develop even further in the glass. Truly thrilling.

BBQ at our house. The Bodegas Riojanas Viña Albina Reserva 1976 that was intended to go with the steak was corked, this was the best alternative readily available at room temperature. The Montes Alpha Cabernet 1997 offered black currant, dark cherry, mint, bell pepper, herbaceous notes and spice on the nose and palate, with good acidity and good to very good length. The medium- to full-bodied wine had average complexity, the tannin was still present. Good value.

Very fine and distinguished wine. Subtle nose of casis ( not as predominant as in other chilean wines). Very smooth and velvety on the palate. Should keep for another 2-5 years.
Properly cellared, drank without decanting, a bit of brick on the edges, matured bouquet with some fruit and strong leather, well structured, solid, very long finish. Probably at its peak. No sediment.

Gorgeous wine. Still drinking very well, but appears to be leaning toward the end of it's useful life.
