Rhones and Riesling with new friends (Grand Sichuan, St. Marks Place, New York, NY): Orange-brown. Darker than the Spatlese, more baroque. Brown and orange flavors: quince and apricot, caramel, lots of spice, apricots again. Not as deep as some of the MC wines I have had, but still excellent. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

This seems to have moved on - it has lost quite a lot of the exuberance I noted before and is finer and more complex. The sweetness is more subdued as well.

A decadent, ripe Auslese that's probably well into BA levels of ripeness. This is packed with all sorts of ripe tropical fruited flavours (except durian!), honey, caramel and faintly spicy and floral accents. Very rich, lusciously sweet but superbly balanced with the acidity still keeping it very fresh and remarkably light on its feet. Lovely wine.

Light gold. Yellow tropical fruits, pineapple, peach, dried mango. Arnie said local pomegranate. A rather gentle Auslese; not too sweet. Better with cheese than with dessert, though. Or maybe as a sweet aperitif. Still, very good although I would rather drink it now than later.

Rieslings and Rhones at Grand Sichuan (St. Marks Place Grand Sich, NY): Consistent with my note from a year+ ago. This hasn't budged much, and it's still awesome. Powerful, tropical, honeyed and intense, and so perfectly balanced.
