    Ruby red of medium intensity. Typically Bourgogne in character displaying good depth and an elegant balance between oak and fruit. The initial masculinity from the animal, roasting elements channels the nose into a refined spcied fruit and floral dimension with reminiscences of pan d'epices and violet. The attack is fresh, the spice and fruit (sour cherry) elements are fully reproposed on the mid-palate. Tannins are grainy and wll integrated. The finish reveals a balanced extraction. Rebuy: yes

    Dark ruby with violet reflections. The nose offers a typical Bourgougne character and some degree of complexity. Spirit-soaked cherries and animal notes donate the wine a good aromatic balance. At the background are spices and subdued roasting hints. On the palate is light-bodied but flavour packed, still cherry at the forefront. Well balanced now but could keep a couple of years. Especially good with food (as any wine). Overall for CHF16 I found this very good value.

    (Bouchard Père et Fils Mercurey) Medium-plus colour. Direct and concentrated fruit on the nose - dark red - little complexity. Nice texture - little overt tannin as it’s covered by the fruit, little overt acidity also but it is always balanced. Like the nose, nothing complex here but it’s perfectly packaged, easy-drinking and yet a concentrated effort. Zero faults apart from the want of a little character today. Will certainly keep and possibly grow in personality.

    (Bouchard Père et Fils Mercurey) Medium, medium-plus cherry-red colour. The nose is high toned and very, very pinot with a faint oaky undertone. The palate is fresh with a faint astringency coupled to some grain from the tannins. Not so dense, but flavour-packed, though perhaps the acidity is just a little to the fore. A nice red-fruited complexion with a reasonable finish. Quite good, though factor in the price of 22 Swiss francs and it also stays only at ‘quite good’ value stakes - there are many bargains to be found in 2005, this doesn’t qualify.
