  • Dark red color. Very nice nose with elements of toast, licorice, mint, pepper and loam. Very soft layers of raisins, figs, bell peppers, cassis and toast. A very slight hint of cinnamon during a very long finish. Nice, enjoyable wine only lacking in complexity and a bold cabernet sauvignon character.

  • Drinking very well at present, but I wouldn't hold it a lot longer. There's a terrific bouquet, medium (+) body, and a real sense of elegance here. Super QPR - perhaps the best in Napa cab, as the price dropped from ~$50 to under $30 when they moved to a direct sales model. Too bad they haven't made their cab since the '08 vintage. Hopefully, they'll do so again, as they're still around.

  • I was reluctant to open this (was hoping to let it age for a while), but I was influenced by peer pressure ... even at a relatively young age I thought this was outstanding. Balanced, nice finish, and the nose was beautiful. This was basically my ideal sub-$50 cabernet. I will buy more of it, in bulk.

  • Pull and pour: Deep garnet, with oak and the alcohol forward on the nose, hints of tobacco and herbs on the palate, but everything still tightly wound. After about 30 minutes, the oak recedes to reveal aromas of cherry, blueberry and pomegranate, but with the alcohol note still present. Similar flavors on the palate, with grippy tannins and the alcohol obvious, but not hot by any means. This wine is not a fruit bomb. It can't help but be a big wine at 15.1%, with the expected round mouth feel and prominent red berry, but there's also a welcome layer of the mineral notes and earthiness. I am not sure I'd use "delicate" to describe this wine, but it certainly has an elegance and complexity that distinguish it from a typical New World wine aiming for a high Parker rating. The $50 retail is a bit high for this wine, but QPR is fair if you can find it in the $35 range (as I did from wine.woot).
