Lots and lots of tobacco, coffee, earthiness when first opened. Some blackberry started showing through after being open 30-40 minutes and the mouth feel smoothed out nicely. Very nice balance with a smoked chicken & rice dish. Kind of wish I had another bottle.

So I say bye-bye to the last and final Acacia Pinot from my cellar. This one follows the terrible 2000 St. Clair vineyard bottling I did a few weeks ago--I'm still with walking with my head down after subjecting some of my local OC wine wine friends to that one over dinner....sorry Dietzie. So, what about this 2001 Estate? Not bad, really. Been open about 45 mins, in a nice burg stem. The wine is kind of a big, juicy drinker. The nose has some pepper and herbal note (maybe related to my cherry tomatoe comment on this finish?), along with coffee grinds (?). But that palate is all about juicy, toasty black cherry and plum fruits with some anise and maybe a little cherry tomatoe, but not too intrusive.

Nice Pinot...nothing spectacular though. Liked it better a couple of years ago.
