Double decanted int he AM. Drunk over several hours.
Dark cherry, roses, tar and balsam on the nose. A beautiful Serralunga perfume. Sappy and broad on the the palate with terrific palate presence and inner mouth perfume. It was a bit tight at the beginning of the night, but with time continued to grow over the evening reaching the fantastic '95 Rupestris by the end of the night. Finishes long with firm ripe tannins. Youthfully fantastic. 96

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VII (Chicago, IL): A fantastic, intense bottle, which showed a little darker and more closed than the lifted 2001, but still obviously quite red-fruited because after all, this is Cappellano we're talking about. This is made in a much more old-school sort of way, without the high-toned and maybe sometimes volatile notes of some of the wines from the late aughts. Firm and imposing tannic structure, but ample fruit to help cope with it.

~4 hour decant and this was singing. So utterly classic in flavor and texture. Lovely tar, licorice, florals interlaced with black cherry and plum. Lovely taut, refined fruit with silky tannins that still offer grit and muscle. At peak and should hold at this level for a decade or two, and provide pleasure long after that.

Tightly wound up at first, demands a few hours of air. After 3 hours or so, opened up nicely. Beautiful aromatics, lots of structure and depth, very tasty.

(at Foraged - Baltimore) Iron, rose, open, meaty. Light body but super intensity. Still some tannin. Give 5 years. (95+)
