Dinner with the wine group (Sole Ristorante, San Mateo): Light ruby, age-appropriate bricking; aromatic, incredibly pretty, red fruited, strawberry, floral, roses, not actually much tar; palate is light bodied, medium-plus alcohol, well balanced tannins, red fruited, a bit of tamari; finish is medium length. Very nice, perfectly balanced Barolo. This was easily the highlight of the evening. 93

Traveled with this bottle to Seattle It rested 2 days. Decanted several hours, still tight initially at dinner, but it unwound slowly. As always, this barolo was sublime. Roses, tar, dark fruits. Needs food and was lovely with bolognese.

Opened and decanted on the porch during the bubbles portion of the evening and then poured a bit into dinner. This was lovely and really just kept getting better throughout the evening. In an evening of Barolo it’s always one of my favorites.

The nose was dark and sweet, with dried dark cherries, brown sugar and baking spices, earth, tobacco, and licorice. On the palate, the wine was mid-weight with resolved tannins, with sweet dark red fruit, tobacco, and hint of balsamic and spices towards the back end. It is a very drinkable, fully mature Barolo, quite rustic compared to the wines produced by Bartolo in recent vintages but an enjoyable wine nonetheless.

Asperger Wine Syndrome Group Tasting Round (Private Location): As Dirk mentioned before, the bottle was opened with Coravin a year ago and the cork leaked a bit so it was kind of very slowly oxidized. I found a lot of Oxi notes in the wine which blows off a bit but imo constantly disturb the "real" nose which appears with some dried rose petals, a hint of red fruit and lovage underneath. On the palate the wine still has LOTS of tannins and a super strong acidity left. No rating here.
