  • From magnum. Medium ruby in color. Nose is red fruited, some raw cedar, raspberry, forest floor and floral notes. Medium bodied, packed with flavor and a bit spicy. Tannins are still chewy. Acid is medium plus. Finish is dry and longer than average. This can age longer in this format. Enjoyable but it can use a few years in the cellar to polish some edges.

  • Early in its window, with engaging aromatics, minty and floral. Enough fruit to thoroughly charm up front, with cool mentholated notes, but there’s still lots of gritty tannin on the back end that needs to resolve for my liking. Revisit in 5 years. 92+ pts… Day 2, even better, great intensity, penetrating grip and flavor, more flashy than nuanced, but hard to resist as is.

  • PnP, stunning. Heavily perfumed nose, well-balanced med>med+ body, with sweet, round tannins, avg++ complexity, and a long, elegant finish. This is in such a sweet spot just now that if you have several, it's really an ideal time to open one. If this bottle was representative, this has another decade of superb drinking yet ahead. Such a joy. RIP Renato. highly recommended

  • Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Ovello 2004.
Blir bare bedre og bedre med tid i glasset.
Tørkede blomster, krydder og Swix sitrusrens.
    Det utgjør en fin parfyme.
    Smooth i anslaget.
Moden deilig frukt med en nedslipt struktur.
Deilig å drikke nå, men heller ikke noe problem å lagre videre.
Presis lang finish med delvis oppløste tanniner.
Fine med litt trøkk i seg fortsatt.
    Skikkelig digg vin. 92p+

  • Drinking nicely per "spendergast" note 12/7/22. My bottle showed notable tannin, though the wine is perfectly balanced. Recommend 2-4 hour decant. Very nice with beef bolognese.

(OVELLO Barbaresco Cantina del Pino) Barbaresco Dear Friends, A Monday afternoon is not typically when we ponder celebratory magnums (that's more of a Friday or Saturday affair) but this was my only chance at this parcel. If you have a 2004 birth year or important occasion down the road and don't wish to break the bank, this large format provides exemplary, sophisticated quality for a fair price and it has become quite rare in magnum. The 2004 Ovello was sourced from the finest material Renato Vacca had to work with in the vintage and (as far as large format is concerned) this is among the best buys from the entire region (Barolo or Barbaresco): While the potential enjoyment of this wine speaks for itself, the magnums could have interesting secondary market value down the road as well - the critical acclaim is among the highest for the price in Barbaresco and it is from a vintage that should continue to evoke thoughts of superior quality many years from now. This parcel is directly from the cellars at Cantina del Pino with impeccable provenance ONE SHIPMENT ONLY/EXTREMELY LIMITED at this price (this is the last parcel of 2004 magnums they have): 2004 Cantina del Pino Barbaresco "Ovello" 1.5lt It will ship during the Fall shipping season. (Cantina del Pino Barbaresco Ovello, Piedmont) The Vacca family has been farming and making wine in Barbaresco since the 1800s. Cantina del Pino was founded by Renato Vacca, who quickly rose to the top of his class by using techniques both old and new to create lovely wines of balance, elegance, and purity. Vacca’s father has been farming the Ovello vineyard since Renato was born, and the family’s intimacy with the vineyard truly shines in this bottling. The 2004 possesses ripe, dark fruits, notes of cedar and vanilla, and floral aromas. Medium-bodied, it packs a fair amount of chewy tannins and could lay down for 10-plus years; I recommend decanting before serving. Hot Picks

(OVELLO Barbaresco Cantina del Pino) Barbaresco Dear Friends, If you are looking for exceptional quality aligned with top-tier price/value in an expensive genre, look no further - this wine delivers on many accounts and it will last for the long haul. We've been supporters of the Ovello since the first vintage and while I yearn for the days when it was $25, it still represents one of the best values at the high-end in Piedmont - the 2004 is the finest effort in Renato Vacca's career and I don't think there will be much argument with that. One of my associates tasted the wine yesterday at Cantina del Pino and I received a text from Alba with one word "Wow". This wine comprises the best material that used to go into the Produtorri's Ovello bottling but Vacca stopped selling it to them circa 1999/2000: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for outstanding reflection on a great growing season and fair price for a wine of this ilk. This parcel is directly from the cellars at Cantina del Pino with perfect provenance. One shipment only at this price: 2004 Cantina del Pino Barbaresco "Ovello" (This is not the Produttori bottling, this is Vacca's estate bottled Ovello) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy5567
