This is drinking beautifully now, with a bright, long finish and a solid tannic structure. Bordeaux-like, and I mean that in a good way. A testament to the fact that these Howell Mountain reds need 10-15 years to hit their stride and can go 20.

Howell Mountain Cabernet (Newport Beach, CA): A very masculine Cabernet. Notes of espresso, volcanic ash, and dark chocolate followed by cassis and dried herbs. The tannins are stubborn and the finish is slightly astringent, but this wine reminds me of a fine Left Bank Bordeaux.
