Bought at local store for Boerne Wine Club tasting. The nose on this wine was superlative, ripe cherries, a little tar, and blueberries. No surprise it won a Gold Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Palate was dense with tons of black cherries, nutmeg, raspberry and coffee toast notes. A great bargain as well at just over $20. It was my second ranking wine of the event.

Boerne Wine Club - Cab/Chardonnay (Scenic Loop Cafe, San Antonio, TX): Currants and spices on the nose, really nice. Palate had a strong cedar note, but has a most intriguing spice note (thyme? tobacco leaf?) that held on through a nice vanilla bean and currant finish. Fruit persisted through. Well made and balanced. Tannins were not very noticeable. Drink now.

Definitely takes some time to open up. Initially it simply did not taste very good, but eventually got some cherries and a fair amount of oak and alcohol and a fair, perhaps light finish. Much more easy drinking at this point, but still have not been particularly impressed with the Helix series from my experiences.

Dark purple color. Fruit forward nose of blueberry, plum, toasted oak, vanilla and smoke. Enjoyable bouquet. More of the same on the palate with the vanilla oak and plum flavors coming through with some milk chocolate on the back end. Sweet finish. Not much in the tannin department but a very tasty, enjoyable cabernet.
