Showing wonderfully at almost 20 years old - super youthful, inky dark and loaded with unctuous glaceed dark fruit. Good earth and a touch o' brett/funk - just a touch. Lovely.

Double decant and still needed a few hours to blow off some dust. Beautiful bouquet of red and some dark fruit, with pronounced herbaceous notes such as garrigue, some spice, earthy notes such as old leather, barnyard and soil and also with some minerality as in schist or iron. Elegant expression with some tertiary development. Very delicious. Recommend to enjoy with food

In the same mold as the 2004. Light, stony, earthy, mint notes. It seems to be advancing just a little faster than the 2004 right now, so this is a good time to drink it.

(Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape) Very dark cherry red color with clear meniscus; tight black fruit, chocolate, graphite nose; tight, black fruit, graphite palate; medium finish 90+ pts. (double decanted a few hours before being served)
(Charvin) Charvin Dear Friends, This wine has been very difficult to source and it seems the US allocation has been cut by 50-70% in 2006 - why, I'm not sure? I finally found a parcel at a great price and it is on the way to us. I have a soft spot for the wines of Charvin as they seem to age in a timeless and lovely fashion - Rayas comparisons or not, they often require 6-10 years of bottle age to blossom but the wait is more than worth it. The 2006 is a gorgeous effort from Laurent Charvin - it reminds me of a combination of the 1990 and 1999 (if that is possible) and it is still priced at the lower end for the top-tier wines (2006 Clos des Papes is hovering around $100 and it is not better than this - it's just more extracted and more alcoholic): VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for ageing potential and for support of one of the good guys in the wine trade. This parcel arrives with impeccable provenance directly from the source 2006 Domaine Charvin Chateauneuf du Pape It will ship during the first available shipping window in the fall season (weather permitting). Disappointing. Tannic AF, bitter, lacking any of the charm that Charvin can display.

My last one (and the best of the few I bought). Nearing the end of its optimal window.
