2014 Birthday Wine Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Asia Square): Medium garnet with brownish hues and a little cloudy. Nose is very unique or rather suspicious, port like, coffee, nutty and a bit oxidize. And I thought it could be over the hill too. Surprisingly the palate slowly evolve to show cassis, nutty flavours and dried dark fruits. Still has some bodied and substance with plenty of acidity. Good finishing and almost dissolve tannins. Still holding and drinkable but not showing a lot of classic Bordeaux character like the 1978 Château La Croix St. Georges. A bit disappointed actually. Not a popular wine during the dinner and it gradually faded after few hours.

The bottle had a foil cap that was leaking wine, smelled of old tobacco and port. Cork had a white mold on top of it, Cork broke into 3 pieces, was saturated. very moldy and smoky. Had to pour down the drain. bad bottle. brentwood refunded the price of the bottle. A+ customer service.

I thought maybe past its prime, but the sommelier's assured me it was great. He was right--opened up beautifully after 20 minutes in the decanter.

Library Wines from Pauillac (Hi-Time Wine Cellars, Costa Mesa, Ca.): Slightly tired fruit on the nose but better than Mouton on the palate, nice balance, medium body, medium finish.
