A larger-scaled RRV syrah that 110% scratched my itch on this evening. Full nose of black fruit, toasted herbs, smoked meat and creosote. Palate has concentrated black fruits with just enough acidity to keep it fresh and in balance. Alcohol is well contained within the frame of the wine. Peppery, smoky finish. Great value and is aging gracefully.
Decanted for 30 min. and drank over next 3+ hours. Still big, dense and dark. Opaque without bright light, which shows brick/purple. Massive fruit but not overly sweet. Plum and anise, but big spice and hints cherries and (lesser) raspberries on the long finish. This wine has evolved since my last bottle 2.5 yrs. ago. More time -- at this rate several more years -- might do even more, but this is my last bottle so I'll never know.
