Sadly, I think this is the last of my Carlisle 2006 vintage Zins. Certainly going out on a high note. 15.7% ABV. Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Rather soaring aromatics of red raspberry/Zinberry and baking spices (clove, mostly to my sniffer). Bright red berry fruit on the palate with great length. Ripe certainly but rather light on its feet. Very compelling.
Had this with Morelli's Spicy Dark chocolate ice cream. WOW! The pairing was nuts, it had a hint of spice but a lot of flavors that the ice cream allowed to show through. Milk chocolate would have been tough but the Dark Chocolate was outstanding with it.
Translucent dark garnet in the glass. Complex nose of dry earth, pepper, and slate. Medium-full bodied with black fruit and a slate (chalk) note similar to the nose. Cool toned black fruit. More complex on the nose than the palate. This may have some room to open up further.
