  • From a magnum - needed a bit of air to unwind. Not many signs of age - nose was a bit muted - white flours, beeswax, honeysuckle - maybe a bit of plastic - very subtle but nice. It was firm on the palate with its 14% alcohol weight - acidity was enough and it had an almost grainy texture - I kept thinking of guava. In a great place and enjoyable - definitely a food wine.

  • Robe or évoluée.

  • Well, this wasn’t awesome, but it wasn’t awful either. Muted floral nose with some ripe pear and quince up front and decent length. Lacks acid, but has some subtle sweetness that seems to attack the roof of the mouth more than the tongue. Maybe some underripe persimmon lingering in the medium long finish. Not bad.

  • Fascinating nose and palate of tropical fruits, mango, papaya, beeswax, lemon pith. Wish it had a bit more acidic cut; not sure if product of age or vintage.

  • The colour is burnt gold, the nose is mainly honey and butterscotch. In the mouth, it starts quite well, with an attack of citrus fruits and a mineral base, but then it veers off into sweet, cloying honey with a hot finish. Perhaps time will sort it out because there is an improvement over the last bottle, but once again, I get the impression that they could and should have done better with the terroir and the vintage.

(François Chidaine Vouvray Clos Baudoin) Group's #6 (my #8) – 38 pts.; 1, 1, 0, 1 - light medium golden yellow color; reduction, grapefruit rind, green tea nose; reduction, tart citrus, tart pear, ripe lemon, mineral palate; medium finish (I liked this wine much better when I tasted it a couple of times a few years ago)

(Francois Chidaine Vouvray "Clos Baudoin" Sec) This showed pretty closed. There was some notes of honey, mineral and apple on the nose but the palate showed folded in on itself. Never really improved throughout dinner. Maybe Chidaine '05's closing down?
