Good deep crimson color with only a little sediment, didn't really need decanting so just aerated in the glasses. Medium body with elements of coffee with some soy and still with black currant (cassis) left on the palate. Still had enough acidity to give a clean finish. Not one of the greats, but pretty decent for the almost 30 years of age. We'll see if the recent fruit bombs can hang around this long.
IN fill.
Pen syre, men litt tynn kropp. Tilgjengelige tanniner.
Really felt like it was on its last legs. No tannins left. Soupy. Unfocused. A touch of oxidative note. Was okay for the first hour or so but then fell appart very quickly, to the point of undrinkability.
Cork almost entirely soaked and did not come out in one piece but the wine does not seem negatively affected. Still a medium garnet with a translucent rim. Decanted about 15 min and drank with grilled lamb and later on its own. On the nose sous-bois, dark fruit and spices. A nice and very smooth palate with fine to medium tannins. Feels a bit watered down and could do with a bit more concentration but drinking very well nevertheless. Wonderful medium plus finish. Given some of the mediocre reviews here, am very impressed. A proof that Pontet Canet was able to produce some very nice wines even before Alfred Tesseron took over and elevated this Chateau to the next level.
Decanted and drank over 4 hours. Really great wine with plenty of life left. Nose of tobacco, dark fruit, wood spice. Matched on the palate with a mouth filling somewhat gritty but nice texture. Long finish. Classic older bordeaux that is in a better spot than many 1986s.
